PTSD Retreat

“The mind replays what the heart can’t delete.”

There are some really special places in this world and there are some really awful ones.

The people who come to the PTSD Retreat Competa have either spent considerable time in the awful ones, or in equally dire situations, or they have loved ones who have.

That is why this private, charity and organisation-funded, PTSD Retreat, high in the hills above Malaga in southern Spain, offers peaceful, calm, seclusion amidst a natural wonderland of palm trees, firs and cacti.

Here, serving and veteran military personnel, first responders and health care workers, with or without their families, can truly kick back and relax in the company of people who completely understand what they have endured. There are no demands; no expectations. There are only opportunities.

Guests can also take advantage of the many local facilities to challenge themselves – physically, mentally and/or spiritually.

Competa is home to one of the best triathlon training camps in Europe; some of the best mountain trekking in Europe; some of the most gruelling cycling routes in Europe; a top class adventure sports company offering kayaking and paddle boarding safaris, canyoning and potholing, and some of the most beautiful horse riding scenery in the Andalusian hills.

Competa is also a base for a whole host of spiritual and alternative health therapists, offering guests the opportunity to investigate different ways of dealing with their symptoms. Seminars or free trial sessions of many therapies are made available at the PTSD Retreat, including access to clinical hypnotherapy, acupuncture, Reiki, yoga, massage etc.

A large number of expatriate former military personnel and former policemen, paramedics and firemen have made their home in Competa, this hidden jewel of southern Spain, because of the serenity and balance it exudes. As a result, many of the activity guides at the PTSD Retreat Competa have personal experience of Post-Traumatic Stress Injuries.

Families, or groups, of up to 20 people, can enjoy private use of the PTSD Retreat Competa. There is no need for a charity or organisation to fill all the rooms. The level of guest support is tailored to individual needs, from self-catered to fully-catered accommodation, with or without in-house chef, child minders, transfer and transport services.

Rates are kept as low as possible to allow charities and organisations to fund breaks for those most desperately in need.

The founders of the PTSD Retreat Competa also work tirelessly to raise money themselves, to donate to charities and organisations to allow them to send those who most need it to Competa, to take advantage of the full range of challenging activities. The use of all funds is always published publicly, for full transparency.
